Creating Effective Classroom Assessments

WHAT:  This Academy is a two-day, 12-hour-credit Administrator Academy on a topic critical for all educators today. Content includes evaluating curriculum for assessability; distinguishing types of assessment and when to use each type; rules for test, checklist, and rubric construction; guidelines for evaluating ready-made assessments; and tools for creating accurate, effective assessments.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: All administrators who need to provide leadership for their staff in the evaluation of existing assessments and the development of new classroom assessments.

WHY YOU and MEMBERS OF YOUR STAFF SHOULD ATTEND: Student learning will not improve if we cannot accurately assess that learning and use the results to direct new instruction as well as interventions. Textbook and test bank assessments may or may not be accurate for the student learning goals to be measured. This Academy will show you how to evaluate ready-made or previously created local assessments, and prepare you to guide teachers in the creation of accurate, effective new assessments. Few educators receive any kind of in-depth training in these skills through preservice or graduate programs. This Academy will provide the tools you need to lead your staff in this critical area.

APPROVED AS AN ILLINOIS ADMINISTRATORS’ ACADEMY:  “Creating Effective Classroom Assessments” meets the following requirements:
