STAFF DEVELOPMENT
CLI staff development is designed to help districts improve student learning. In order to accomplish that goal, administrators and teachers need time and training to define their roles in the curriculum, instruction, and assessment processes. CLI has the following staff development opportunities that provide the structure for teachers and administrators to apply training activities and concepts to the everyday work of the school. Choose any or all depending on your needs.

Foundations of the CLI Model

This training session provides a district with proven, field-tested processes for the establishment of an academic governance system, alignment of local curriculum to state standards, creation of valid local assessments, and implementation of best instructional practices. The CLI consultant interacts with participants through dialogue and use of quality materials that provide hands-on practice of each key topic. The session ends with participants planning for the implementation of all three components: curriculum, instruction, and assessments; therefore teams are encouraged.

Developing Local Curriculum: A Comprehensive Guide

This staff development training provides the day-to-day details for the development, implementation, and validation of an aligned local curriculum. Designed for those school districts that want to develop the best possible curriculum for their students, this training outlines step-by-step procedures to accomplish that goal. It emphasizes techniques for working with educators in creating and managing solid and authentic curriculums in all subjects, grades K through 12, while adapting to state mandates and standards. This training also includes consultant-participant interaction, and detailed materials with hands-on practice.

KEY TOPICS INCLUDE:

  • Collecting information
  • Analyzing curriculum and making decisions
  • Preparing design-down curriculum
  • Implementing and validating the curriculum
  • Selecting resources and planning for assessment

Implementing Standards in the Classroom

This staff development training offers real solutions to understanding and effectively using state standards and local curriculum at the classroom level. It provides practical suggestions for organizing, planning, teaching, and assessing an aligned local curriculum.

KEY TOPICS INCLUDE:

  • Organization and year-long pacing strategies
  • Creation of formative assessments aligned with learning components 
  • Identification of context, methods, activities, and resources
  • Identification of correctives and enrichments for a particular learning component and how to incorporate them in the classroom routine
  • Creation of summative assessments aligned with unit outcomes

Creating Quality Local Assessments

This workshop addresses questions about assessment (why, what and how) and then guides participants through the following:

  • Detailed definitions of types of assessments
  • Content and verb alignment
  • Assuring that students know targets
  • Choosing the type of assessment
  • Test construction guidelines
  • The role of rubrics
  • Evaluating assessments for alignment

Developing Capacity....Facilitated Work Time

This staff development is especially designed for districts that have already participated in one of the above training opportunities and would like guided assistance in completing a process. The service is tailored to meet your district's individual needs. In these sessions, highly skilled facilitators offer practical suggestions and guidance in such areas as revising the curriculum according to validation results, creating implementation plans, creating assessments, or implementing data-based decision making... with a focus on work time for individuals or teams.

Costs for CLI services are reasonable, but do vary according to the type of training requested and other circumstances. The average cost for a two-day workshop is about $3000-$3200 (plus CLI consultant travel) and this fee includes a set of comprehensive training materials. Costs will differ depending on the number of participants, time involved, and if special arrangements are made.
