Curriculum Leadership Institute began working with Mitchell County Schools in February 2005. Throughout the years Superintendent Hicks of this school district in Camilla, GA has been dedicated to the process of the CLI Model. Below is a testimony to how the CLI Model and the dedicated staff of Mitchell County Schools were able to influence changes within this district.
On Monday September 17, 2007 Gov. Sonny Perdue visited Mitchell County High School. Governor Perdue had a big surprise for the faculty and student body awarding them with the 2007 Championship Governors Cup! The award is given annually to a school for the greatest point gain on the SAT based on the prior 3 year cumulative average. Mitchell County High School had the highest gain in the AA division for the entire state of Georgia. State School Superintendent Cathy Cox was also along on the visit commending the students on an excellent job.

CLI's work also extended to southern Georgia working with Dooly County Schools — beginning with the school year of 1997-1998 and ending in June of 2006. Many accomplishments took place over the years including steady gain in test scores in all subjects. In May of 2005, the Georgia State Board of Education recognized four school systems in the state as Title I Distinguished Schools — and Dooly County was one of the four! The systems chosen had made significant academic gains for economically disadvantaged students. The four systems were categorized by their student population size, with Dooly County in the "extra small" category. Each system received a $50,000 award for this recognition.
